Formed 1971, the club is BCU affiliated. It is not fortunate to have its own clubhouse but during the winter months, October - April, one hour pool sessions are held at Clements Hall Sports Centre, Hawkwell, on Fridays, 9p.m. - 10p.m. and afterwards, in the bar.

Several forms of canoeing are undertaken with the most popular being whitewater, slalom and surfing. By virtue of our geographical location it is necessary to travel quite long distances to enjoy these activities and to this end, the committee arranges regular trips with members informed by Newsletter 3 or 4 times a year. Winter whitewater in various parts of England and Wales on rivers such as the Dart, Tees, Wye, Usk and Dee. A summer beginners weekend at Symonds Yat. Longer trips to Scotland, France, Switzerland and Austria. Surfing weekends are usually in North Devon twice a year with occasional others in South Wales. Participation is enjoyed more for social pleasure than competition although; several members do compete in regular slalom events.

As mentioned above, pool sessions are held in the winter and for the summer months, weekly mid - week evening paddles are arranged on local waters. The venues for these meets are published in the newsletters and on the calendar page.

As a side note of interest, several members also enjoy climbing and mountain biking and occasionally combine these activities on trips.

The club does not have its own boats, other than a few pool boats, but through the goodwill of members willing to lend spare equipment has, in the past, assisted would-be paddlers. However, it has to be stressed that this cannot be taken for granted. Advice on choice of equipment is readily given, as is also advice on the best outlets. Second hand bargains are sometimes to be had through the club, advertisements appearing in the newsletter and here on web site.
